Why deep links stopped working on X for iOS and what you can do now

By Noa Kogonia·Dec 10, 2025·5 min read

In early November 2023, X (formerly Twitter) made changes to its iOS WebView that blocked app-scheme and App Store redirects, leaving users with blank screens when tapping links.
This caused an 86% drop in conversions from organic posts on X iOS, while Android and Safari remained unaffected.
The problem stemmed from X's internal WebView logic.
To fix it, marketers can implement an https-based fallback for new user acquisition or use AppsFlyer's Deep Linking Suite with OneLink technology to create controlled landing pages.
The latter option supports both existing and new users through Universal Links and custom landing pages, though it requires more setup.
AppsFlyer recommends updating Universal Links configuration for iOS to ensure reliable deep linking across platforms.
