Strengthening Our Ad Policies and Enforcement Around Prescription Drugs

Jul 20, 2021·2 min read

Facebook is tightening rules for promoting prescription drugs.
From August 25, online pharmacies and telehealth providers must get certification from LegitScript, a third-party verifier, before running ads.
Pharmaceutical manufacturers need pre-approval from Facebook.
Only these three categories can promote Rx drugs, and only in the US, Canada, or New Zealand, with no targeting of under-18s.
Facebook also clarifies its policies into three distinct ones: online pharmacies, prescription drugs, and unsafe substances.
This aims to better distinguish illicit drugs from restricted Rx drug promotion by approved advertisers, addressing issues like opioid abuse.
