What's new in the Threads API

By Everton Fernandes Rosario·Apr 14, 2026·5 min read

Over the past year, Threads has expanded its features for users.
Now, Threads API receives major improvements to help developers create richer content and better integration.
New content types include cross-sharing to Instagram Stories, long-form text attachments (up to 10,000 characters with formatting), ephemeral ghost posts that auto-archive after 24 hours, spoiler tags for text/images/videos, and GIF support via GIPHY.
Integration enhancements feature a tokenless oEmbed API for embedding posts without tokens, web intent enhancements for pre-configuring topic tags and reply controls, and search/discovery updates allowing filtering by media type or author username, with follower threshold lowered from 1,000 to 100.
Replies and mentions now include is_verified and profile_picture_url fields.
Finally, new controls and real-time notifications help manage interactions at scale.
These updates empower brands and creators to thrive, offering developers tools to build engaging Threads experiences.
